Support FLI This Giving Tuesday

We Need Your Help
We’ve accomplished a lot. FLI is a small organization that has only been around for a few years, but during that time, we’ve:
- Helped mainstream AI safety research, including hosting two AI safety conferences (in Puerto Rico and Asilomar) and an Ethics of Value Alignment Workshop and supporting numerous AI safety workshops and events;
- Funded 47 beneficial AI and AGI research grants;
- Drafted the 23 Asilomar Principles which offer guidelines for ensuring that AI is developed beneficially for all — the Principles have since been endorsed by the state of California and are often referenced in discussions about AI safety and ethics;
- Supported efforts to advance negotiations toward a ban on lethal autonomous weapons with the Slaughterbots video, which has been viewed by an estimated 60-70 million people across various platforms;
- Launched the Lethal Autonomous Weapons (LAWS) Pledge, in which thousands of people and organizations pledged to never develop LAWS;
- Launched multiple open letters that have brought scientists and the public together for the common cause of a beneficial future;
- Represented scientists who signed our LAWS letters at the United Nations Convention on Conventional Weapons — our arguments presented at the UN were also referenced in the European Parliament’s resolution supporting a ban on LAWS;
- Supported the successful efforts by the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) to get a UN treaty passed that bans and stigmatizes nuclear weapons (ICAN won last year’s Nobel Peace Prize for their work), including an open letter and a video that were presented on the floor of the UN;
- Maintained a website that’s received over 6 million page views — our most popular web app and informational page have been viewed over 2 million times;
- Hosted two well-received podcast series;
- Created popular Youtube videos with MinutePhysics on Why You Should Care About Nukes and the Myths and Facts About Superintelligent AI.
- Developed a resource outlining the AI policies of more than two dozen countries and regions around the world, as well as a compilation of AI policy recommendations from civil society and industry actors relating to fourteen major AI policy topics;
- Broadened the conversation about how humanity can flourish rather than flounder with powerful technologies.
And that’s just what we’ve done so far. There’s so much more we’d like to do, but as a nonprofit, our work relies on your help. On Giving Tuesday this year, please consider a donation to FLI.
Get more for your money
Facebook and Paypal are joining forces on Giving Tuesday and they’re matching up to $7 million in donations. Please consider taking advantage of this opportunity and donate to FLI through the fundraiser set up here: https://www.facebook.com/donate/257686414919515/
Last year’s matching initiative maxed out in less than one and a half minutes, so to get the most for your money, we recommend getting your donations in as soon as the initiative begins at 8 AM eastern Tuesday morning.
Where would your money go?
- More AI safety research,
- More high-quality information and communication about AI safety and other existential threats,
- More efforts to keep the future safe from lethal autonomous weapons,
- More efforts to trim excess nuclear stockpiles & reduce nuclear war risk,
- More efforts to guarantee a future we can all look forward to.
On Giving Tuesday, we encourage you to use the Facebook fundraiser to make the most of matching donations, but we welcome your help and donations any day of the year. The link below is the easiest to use once the Facebook fundraiser has passed.
Let’s create the best future possible!
